Across Montana, something powerful is happening— communities are stepping up with local solutions for better health through food. We’re excited and proud to share a very special collaboration: our Community Film Project, a series of stories that shine a light on Montana schools and communities, along with the incredible people working every day to feed and teach kids and families about good food across our vast state.

In partnership with Lara Tomov, founder and creator of Stories for Action, with financial and technical support from the Headwaters Foundation, the Community Film Project shares stories from six schools and communities within Montana: Polson, Fairview School District 3 & 13, Nkwusm Salish Language School, Hinsdale Public Schools, Two Eagle River School, and Conrad, MT.

The goals of the Community Film Project include sharing the creative and inspiring work of people across Montana to improve food and knowledge about nutrition in rural communities and highlighting how good food can improve health in Montana. From scratch cooking with Montana-grown ingredients to hands-on food education, cooking classes, and the celebration of Native food traditions—these stories also show the powerful role food can play in young people’s lives. They reveal how food can spark curiosity, build confidence, and strengthen connections, all while inspiring communities to take action. At their heart, these stories remind us that when kids are engaged and empowered through food, healthier futures naturally follow.
